Horticulture

Yesterday we spent the day pretending we were gardeners.  I had purchased two big bags of compost and cow manure and I turned over the raised flower bed in our back yard and mixed to new organic goodies into the "old soil.  We were told that when they built these houses they scraped the top soil off and hauled it away leaving just the clay behind.  So mixing in compost and sand helps loosen the soil.  Randa and I have picked up plants and flowers from several of the many  nurseries in the area and Saturday was the day to put them in the ground.  It was cool and cloudy so perfect weather to work.
By 4:30 we were done, both literally and figuratively.  Nothing like physical work, digging, kneeling, sitting, raking and hoeing to wear you out.  The shower felt sooo good.  But the effort made the yard look better and that makes us feel better.  The flowers make the view out our windows that much better.  We don't have the mountain views that we had in Arizona, but having lots of bright colors and textures helps.
