Urinals

Why should I have to stand with my legs spread to use the urinal in a restroom? AIM BETTER PEOPLE !!! Finish up completely before you put your equipment back in the holster!!

A Drive in California

We left Anderson before 9am. 433 miles to Bakersfield. Arrived at RV park at 6:10. Office closed at 6pm. "Find an open spot and come back and register tomorrow." So we did. Walked the dogs, had supper, and now R is watching a little TV and I am typing this.
I am using my phone's WiFi hot spot and it seems to work fine.

Today was a long grey day. Raining for the first two hours, then dry from then on. Let's see, what do I remember? Flowing traffic, bumpy highway driving from Sacramento to Bakersfield, all the towns look same. A mish-mash of McDonalds, Subway, Flying J, Home Depot, Safeway, Texaco, Costco. The positions changed, but the players are always there. They may share their space with some other stores, but they are always around. Ubiquitous

Beating the Storm

Tuesday morning I woke up listening to the weather report, "Incoming Storm Promises Snow in the Mountains". Alarm Bell !! Time to get outta there..

Our original plan was to leave Wednesday, drive over Willamette Pass, spend the night in Klamath Falls, then travel through Reno, Tonopah, Vegas, Parker, ending in Quartzsite for a week before ending in Organ Pipe.

New plan, get out of town as fast as we can, head south on I-5, up over Siskiyou Pass, and south on I-5 to Bakersfield, east through Barstow to Needles, then Parker and so on...

We left Eugene at 1:30pm excited, harried, but loaded. By forty miles the rain stopped, seventy miles the road was dry. And so we trucked on, leaving the nervous driving conditions behind. Up over Siskiyou Pass, dry as a bone and on. Through Weed, "Should we stop here? No let's keep going." Finally, at 8:15 we pulled into JGW RV Park in Anderson, glad to be parked. Quick supper and into bed.

Wednesday Morning. Checked the road conditions. I-5 is closed do to snow. Too many accidents. Am I glad we decided to make a run for it? You bet!!!

Quick breakfast and hit the road. Nope. The bedroom slide will not move, nothing happens when I flip the switch. I checked the fuses I knew about to no avail, so I call for a repair person.

An hour later, he arrives, checks various areas (all unknown to me) and finds an almost hidden burned fuse. Voila! A new $2.99 fuse and a $150 check written.

But we are back on the road again tomorrow. If you need RV help in the Redding area, Einstein RV Repair is a good choice.

New Tires

2:08 pm  America's Tire  Eugene, Or.

I’m sitting in the lobby of a tire store.  My appointment was for 2pm and my truck is still parked outside.  I am disappointed but not shocked.  I can see the workers out in the shop and they are all busy so it is understandable.  This is a busy place for sure.  And so I am killing time.

Killing Time.  -  An interesting idiom. -  How does one kill that that you cannot touch or feel?  Can you murder time?  Can you wound or hurt time?  What a waste, to kill time.  With so much going on, places to be, things to do, to sit and twiddle away an hour seems almost criminal.

But it is checking off one of the items on my list for the trip.  Of course it is costing more than I had hoped to pay, but that is normal for me.  But, as they say, it’s only money.

   2:20 pm

The rig has been driven into the shop and parked in a bay.

   2:27 pm

Jacks are being slid underneath and it’s being raised up.

   2:31pm

Tires taken off.

   2:43 pm

Both tires remounted and leaning nearby.

   2:46 pm

Both tires being bolted on and torqued down.

   2 48 pm

 Backing it out.

I must say that that once the truck was driven into the shop, it was a half hour to get the job done.  The folks with the appointments can still only get their work done if there is an open bay.  Today there was not.  The phone rang almost continuously with requests for quotes.  America’s Tires is a busy place.  They say that they will beat anyone’s price and I have found that true even Costco’s.

Kitchen Musings

It is necessary that I announce the passing of one of our kitchen staff, Frigina Kenmore.  For more than twenty years, she was a valuable member of our household.   Although she was a hard worker, it must be said that she was always a bit cold and remained somewhat distant from the other "staff" and only warming up at the very end.

No services are planned, but her body will be donated to charity.  The family will spend the day trying to replace her with someone equally as cold.

Two Weeks

Oh my Goodness!  Time is beginning to speed up.  Two weeks from today we could be on the road.  Today it was clear and in the 50's which was a teaser for me.

  Projects for me to complete:

   1.  Oil change - truck
   2.  Differential change - truck
   3.  Purchase new front tires for truck.
   4.  Reload "camping items" back into storage area of trailer
   5.  Get bikes loaded
   6.  Stop at Toyota and ask about how to prepare Prius for long-term storage in garage.
   7.  Load generator into truck bed.

I guess it is time to start checking them off the list.
