This time of year, the population of the Lake Tahoe Basin is HUGE !! The highways are crowded. The beaches are crowded, (especially this year with the high water levels shrinking the beaches), the stores and restaurants are crowded. Our parking lot at Tallac is full all day starting at 10 am, but visitors that are parking there are not coming to the historic site are history. They are coming for the free parking and access to the beach. It is not unusual to see families wearing flip-flops, swimwear, beach chairs, coolers, and various floating devices to and from their vehicles. Will the problem go away? Sure, but not until after Labor Day.
