BTA Plant Sale

It's time for BTA's semi-annual plant sale  Lots of business for the giftshop.  As you can see there are hundreds of desert plants to choose from.  If I lived down here it would be hard to resist filling the pickup box.  Lots of color and variety.  With the warmer weather the crowds have increased.  People have discovered this place and becoming members so that they can come often.  Spring is pushing hard to appear.  It is teasing us with a few warm days followed by a couple of cool rainy ones.

We have been busy with school groups.  I am kinda getting used to the kids but would rather be giving tours.  We are ready to be done but our stint here goes through the end of April .  We found out this week that we have a school group April 30 th.  Darn !   So much for leaving a few days early.

Thinking Back

The day after Labor Day Sept 2011  This is the rig in line to load unto the ferry at Anacortes, WA.  We are on the way to volunteer at San Juan Island National Historic Site

Pincushions

Pincushion Cacti are tiny.  They hide under bushes and in tall grasses.  You will walk right past them without knowing.  You need to keep your eyes open as you move along.  It is always a good idea to watch where you are stepping when you are in the desert.  It's easy to stumble or trip and you do not want to fall into a cactus.  You might damage it and it might damage you.  You also need to watch out for desert animals, especially the reptiles.  They are afraid of you, but they will react if they think they are being threatened.  That being said, the desert is fantastically beautiful place to wander.  It will take your breath away.
